Ger van Leeuwen - Zonder woorden (‘Without words’); 2007
Photographer Ger van Leeuwen (1926 – 1999) became famous with his photographs of the National Ballet. However, his work covers much more; his urban impressions from the 1960s, for instance, still have a strong historical appeal. Their melancholy and stillness is palpable.
Van Leeuwen approached photography primarily as a technical profession. Maybe that is the reason that these photos show so much more: the simple beauty of black and white – free of interpretation.
